
Meet Dr. Shorter
Dr. Shauntazia Shorter is the founder and CEO of The Carrie Mae Williams Center, a nonprofit dedicated to healing black families through literacy, trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and cognitive development. An educator and alchemical healer, Dr. Shorter draws from her expertise in in exceptional education, curriculum instruction, social and emotional learning, and leadership to create transformative programs for communities impacted by trauma, poverty, and gentrification.​
She has worked with MNPS, ACE Nashville, Corner to Corner, and the LiberTEA Collective, developing trauma-informed, culturally relevant programming that includes:

She holds an Ed. D in Leadership and an Ed. S in Turnaround Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University, along with a M.Ed. in Special Education, B.A. in English Education, and B.A. in Spanish from Tennessee State University..
