Meet Marissa

Marissa King, a Detroit native and 2017 Tennessee State University graduate, has nearly 10 years of experience in the Tennessee General Assembly. She began her career as a legislative intern for multiple state representatives while at TSU, and later served as a legislative clerk, executive legislative assistant. She is currently the Executive Legislative Analyst to State Rep. Torrey Harris, the Chairman of the Shelby Co. Delegation and the legislative liaison for the Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators (TBCSL). Outside of her legislative work, she contributed to the Harris/Walz campaign in 2024 and in her spare time, a writer for LUMI Marketing and Creative Policy Organization, creating and supporting progressive policy initiatives on a national scale.

Beyond her policy work, Marissa is deeply involved in community leadership and the arts. She plays baritone saxophone with the Nashville African American Wind Symphony, Inc. and serves as its secretary. She holds leadership roles in organizations such as The People’s Pwr, the Aristocrat of Bands Alumni Association, and the Davidson County Young Democrats. Marissa is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, and the Kappa Iota Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, Inc., where she is currently the Membership Advisor on the campus of Tennessee State University. Marissa is committed to sustaining the legacy of strength and success, empowering Black communities and ensuring sustainable political representation."
